BROW FAQS

How old do I have to be?
You must be 18 years or older to receive services.

Is it painful?
Nope! A highly effective 5% Lidocaine topical anesthetic cream is applied to the brow area before your procedure. During the procedure an additional secondary numbing agent is applied to the area to keep you comfortable. A lot of clients even fall asleep during the process!

How do I choose what type of procedure I want? Do I want microblading, powder brows, nano brows, combo brows etc?
The good news is you don’t have to! After assessing your skin and brow goals, I make the best decision for your skin. I don’t like to pigeon-hole myself into one singular technique. I take whatever route I need in order to give you the brows you want. There are really only 2 ways of implanting pigment into the skin: manually or by machine. Within those 2 methods are a variety of techniques. There are a million different names for these techniques. Most of this is just marketing. I usually take a combination of approaches in order to achieve natural looking results with as little trauma as possible.

But I heard microblading is the best for natural results and isn’t a tattoo.

That just simply isn’t true. When you implant pigment into the skin, you are indeed tattooing. Microblanding can actually be the most traumatic for the skin of the techniques offered. A VERY small percentage of clients are actually good candidates for microblading alone.

How long does it last?
Any form of cosmetic tattooing (microblading included) is considered permanent as it does not wash away, however pigments are designed to fade over time. Frequency of sessions may be needed 9 months to 3 years and beyond depending on the following factors: pigment color used (lighter colors fade faster), sun exposure, smoking, bleeding during the procedure, skincare products, medications, chemical peels within the treated area. PLEASE NOTE that final results cannot be guaranteed as each unique skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates.

How many sessions will I need?
All techniques require AT LEAST 2 sessions. 2 sessions are included in the initial cost. There is an initial session to establish the shape and lay a foundation. A second session is performed 6-12 weeks later. Everyone heals differently and at different rates. If your fist session does not heal perfectly, do not worry! During this second session your pigment retention will be assessed and any adjustments will be made.  Additionally, the shape and density will be perfected. This follow-up session will also increase the longevity of your brows. Previously tattooed eyebrows or zero natural brow may require one or two additional appointments (charged accordingly) and rarely achieve similar results to those who have no previous tattoo work. About 20% of clients will require an additional session other than the 2 included in the initial. The cost of these additional sessions are $100.

What type of pigments do you use?
The pigments that we use are specially formulated synthetic, organic, or mineral pigments that can be mixed to achieve a variety of colors and tones. I prefer to work with European Pigment brands as the EUR standards are much stricter than in the US.

How long does the procedure take?
The initial session takes approximately 2- 3 hours. This includes filling out paperwork, numbing, the designing process, and tattooing. Follow-up appointments take approximately 1.5- 2 hours.

Is it safe?
Absolutely! We pride ourselves on having an immaculately clean studio space. We only use single use, disposable blades, handles, needle cartridges and supplies. All needles have individual lot numbers and sterilization dates. Additionally, all cross contamination guidelines are strictly adhered to. The station is thoroughly disinfected before any procedure as well as after. We are fully licensed to operate by the NJ Board of Health.

Is this service right for me?
Factors to consider associated with skin type include:
o Oily Skin: Increased oil production can cause hair strokes to blur and heal with a more powdered effect.
o Mature Skin: Tends to be thinner and more delicate. I tend to be more cautious and conservative with this skin type.
o Previously Tattooed Brows: Previous tattooing must be very faded or nearly invisible. Additionally, scar tissue associated with previous tattooing or tattoo removal may affect pigment retention.  A consultation is always required if your brows have been previously tattooed.
o Rosacea: Not recommended for tattooing if there is active Rosacea present in the brow area.

If you have little to no brow hairs present, the results will appear more 2D and it is possible that you may need more than 2 sessions to achieve your desired result and will be charged accordingly.

All techniques are meant to blend with your natural brow hair to produce the most realistic results. It is not meant to entirely replace makeup. Eyebrow pencils and powders may still be needed. I cannot stress this enough. This procedure is meant to enhance the natural brow, not completely fill it in solid. Additionally, the procedure has NO affect on your existing brow hairs so you will still need to maintain them by tinting, shaping etc.

You CANNOT be tattooed if you are:

o Pregnant or nursing
o Currently on an antibiotic or steroid
o Tendency to keloid for non-surgical wounds
o Under 18 years old
o Are currently on Accutane or have used Accutane within the past year
o Have a freshly tanned or sunburned face
o Currently on blood thinning medications
o Have Rosacea in the brow area
o Major heart problems
o Allergic to Lidocaine, Tetracaine, or Epinephrine ( I have lidocaine without epinephrine for those with sensitivity)
o Botox within 3-4 weeks
o Sick (Cold, flu etc.)
o Diabetic (unregulated or insulin dependent)

What can expect during the procedure?
Upon arrival you will be asked to fill out paperwork. We will then begin the numbing process and possibly patch test to ensure that you are not allergic to the ink. During the numbing process I will review all of the pertinent information in the paperwork, including aftercare. We will then select a color and begin the mapping process where we design your brow shape and position. We will work together to create brows that are flattering and natural looking. If you have an ideal shape and color in mind, it is your responsibility to explain your desire for specific shape, color, and position. Reference photos are always helpful and welcomed! Once a shape/color is determined and approved, the actual tattoo process will begin. Additional anesthetics will be applied throughout the procedure to keep you as comfortable as possible. After the tattoo is completed, you are shaped using a hand tweezing method.

How will I look immediately after? What is the healing process?
Your eyebrows will appear darker, bolder, more sharply defined and more intense than expected for the first week or so. This will gradually lighten during the healing process. Redness and swelling is minimal. The treated area may feel like a sunburn afterwards, but there should be minimal discomfort. During the initial healing period, there may be mild flaking of the skin. You must not pick or rub the dry skin as you may accidentally pull out the pigment. The complete healing process can take anywhere from 21-35 days at which time the true, healed color will be revealed. The tattoo can look very light, invisible, milky, grey, or pink during this process while the skin is regenerating. You must wait until at least 4-5 weeks to see the true color.

What do I need to do for aftercare?

Please see the AFTERCARE page.

Do I need a consultation first?
Most people do not need a consultation before their appointment as the 1st half of the initial appointment serves as a consultation. Most questions can also be answered by reading all sections of my website. A consultation is required for corrective work or have had your brows tattooed elsewhere.

I’ve read all of the information on your website but I REALLY want to do a consultation.

No problem! I do individual consultations for a fee. This fee is for a 15-30 minute individual consultation where we can discuss a personalized plan for your brows. I also map out the shape and we come up with a game plan together. Individual consultations have a $50 non-refundable prepay fee to book. (This is a separate charge and is not applied to your procedure balance should you decide to book.)   If you are interested in this service please fill out the form below and I will reach out in a separate email with a date based on your availability and a secure link to pay the booking fee. https://pmusign.com/u/ktyl8u5nw3

How can I book an appointment?

Appointments can be made by clicking the 'BOOK YOUR APPOINTMENT' page and submitting a booking request form.

A $100 deposit is required to ensure you are serious about receiving your tattoo. Your deposit is non-refundable, but goes towards the final price of your tattoo. No appointments will be booked without a deposit and the remainder of your balance is due at the time of your appointment. I accept cash (discounted), Zelle and credit card for balances only. Deposits must be paid by credit card.
